The UC Davis Police Department Motor Unit's primary duty is to provide for traffic safety in and around the Sacramento campus.  The Motor Unit attempts to provide for a safe hospital traffic zone both on the main roadways and surrounding neighborhoods.

The motor unit was re-established in 2012 to support the roadway and traffic changes made in and around the Sacramento campus. The use of motorcycles in lieu of patrol cars helps to reduce the police department's carbon footprint by reducing the amount of patrol vehicle emissions.
