Professional Standards Unit:
This unit will be staffed
by a full time Police Sergeant responsible for investigating and coordinating
all complaints alleged against employees. He or she will also be responsible for
review of police department policy. Routine review of policy must occur to
ensure the department complies with current law, community needs and industry
standards.
Under the direction of the Support Services Captain the Police
Sergeant will ensure all complaints are fairly and thoroughly investigated.

Recruitment and Hiring Unit:
This unit is
responsible for the recruitment and hiring process for all police officer,
police trainee and dispatcher positions. The unit is currently staffed a part
time assistant and has the responsibility to develop, organize and conduct the
hiring process for all sworn and civilian dispatcher positions.
The hiring
process for police officer and public safety dispatcher candidates includes an
intensive background investigation, a medical examination and psychological
examination. These are in addition to the routine hiring process of a written
examination and oral interview process.
The unit is also responsible for
coordination and review of confidential background investigations, which are
required for ALL police department employees.

Training Unit:
The Training Unit identifies
required training and coordinates and schedules attendance of all employees.
Additionally the Unit maintains record of any formal training police
department employees attend. Records are kept for all professional
certifications that are required by the State of California for Police Officer
and Public Safety Dispatcher employees.
