The Protective Services Officer (PSO) augments the UC Davis Police Department's law enforcement efforts, University of California regulations and UC Davis security-related policies and procedures.

The Protective Services unit assists in providing protection and safety to UC Davis Health System and UC Davis campus communities (faculty, staff, students, patients, and visitors) and property, as needed and as prescribed by state law, the UC Davis Police Department, General Orders and UC Davis Health System policies and procedures.

Typical duties of the PSO include conducting security checks, providing escorts, assuming fixed posts, opening and securing entryways and exits, protecting staff, students and visitors, and conflict resolution. The PSO also prepares reports documenting responses to calls for service.
