Actuals are based on fiscal close data, reported each year on July 1. FY2022 projections are based on data pulled in October 2021.

On the Davis campus, the UC Davis Police Department's budget has been reduced by almost 9% since the fiscal year ending in 2019, consistent with budget changes elsewhere on campus. The department has also started to grow its CORE Officer program, with sworn officers who focus on outreach and education, patrolling the campus in casual uniforms.

As with other campus departments, compensation for employees is the top expense and a primary use of funding by the UC Davis Police Department. For the fiscal year ending in 2021, almost 85% ($5.92 million) of the police budget on the Davis campus went toward compensation for its employees, while 15% ($1.082 million) covers supplies and other operating expenses. These other operating expenses include vehicles, overhead, equipment and insurance.

Police funding for the Davis campus is composed of base funding, grants and  interdepartmental billing for services requested by campus units (recharge). These services can include event security, enhanced site security, background checks and other services.

Grant funding in the UC Davis Police Department budget is designated to improve campus security infrastructure, such as installation of new emergency call stations.

In Sacramento, UC Davis increased officer presence at the UC Davis Medical Center for around-the-clock coverage in its emergency departments, as the region’s only level I trauma center for adults and children. Investments were also made to enhance safety throughout the campus. The department has also led employee education focused on preventing violence in healthcare settings and worked to improve pedestrian safety corridors. The police team is also seeking to improve safety and guest experience through partnerships with UC Davis Health Guest Services and leveraging existing technology.

With its increase in service and officers, the budget for the UC Davis Police Department on the Sacramento campus has increased 25% between fiscal years 2019 and 2021.
