Active Assailant Survival Training

Active assailant survival courses are designed to equip you with essential skills for responding during a critical incident.

While the likelihood of encountering an active assailant is low, awareness and preparation are key. These courses focus on empowering you to react effectively until help arrives. 

These courses are offered to the UC Davis community through e-learning and instructor-led sessions.

Faculty and staff
Registration is available to faculty and staff through the UC Learning Center. Users must be logged in with their Kerberos credentials. If you have trouble registering for a workshop, email UC Davis Learning and Development.

Students

Responding to an Active Assailant for Team Members 
Advance registration is required. Space is limited to 300 participants. This course is open to UC Davis faculty, staff and students. 

This course covers five key takeaways:

  1. Understand the definitions of active assailant and workplace violence or aggression.
  2. Learn individual response strategies.
  3. Discuss departmental Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) and organizational response.
  4. Recognition and reporting of violence or aggression.
  5. Review community and staff resources.

Topics include the definition of an active shooter, how to respond using the R.A.I.N. technique, and what to expect during an incident.

Incident Preparedness: Active Shooter Training | Complete this course in the UC Learning Center
This course will help you prepare to respond to an active shooter situation. You'll learn about typical characteristics of active shooter incidents, ways you can prepare now, and expert recommendations on how best to react when an attack is in progress. You'll also learn what to expect and how to react when law enforcement arrives.

Workshops are scheduled by request only. UC Davis faculty, staff and student organizations may request a workshop.

Community Survival Strategies for Active Shooter Incident
This workshop presents strategies to increase the likelihood of surviving an active shooter incident. The presentation covers the three steps for increasing your chances of surviving an active shooter. Scenarios and concepts presented in the program include demonstrations for attacking an attacker and taking away a handgun. Other topics covered include the will to survive, identifying police department capabilities, and weapon identification for community members.
