To our UC Davis community: Picnic Day is fast approaching, and I know our community is excited to embrace the long‑honored traditions and festivities that make this event so special. I sincerely hope you are able to attend and enjoy all that our university has to offer. As you know, Picnic Day is entirely student‑run, and we should all be proud of and supportive of the hard work, dedication and enthusiasm that sustain this rich tradition. I would also like to remind everyone that Picnic Day is a family‑friendly event.

In this episode of Face to Face with the Chancellor, Chief Farrow discusses the UC Davis Police Department's work to transform our campus policing model and shift the narrative on policing, while acknowledging the ongoing dialogue both locally and nationally.
For the past five years, I have proudly watched our Chancellor, Gary May, stand up to hate speech time after time. His courage to speak out and his commitment toward inclusion are the pillars at the heart of our campus leader. Our Aggie community is so fortunate to have such a thoughtful and courageous leader.
A new state law championed by Police Chief Joe Farrow will allow anyone who is legally authorized to work in the United States to become a peace officer in California, regardless of citizenship status.
Our police department intends to be a national model in campus law enforcement. We will seek IACLEA accreditation as a first step to certify that our practices meet professional standards and go beyond the status quo.
