The University of California, Davis puts the highest priority on the safety and security of its students, faculty, staff and surrounding communities. Strong relationships of mutual trust between our police department and the communities we serve are critical in building and sustaining community trust, effective policing and safe communities.  Part of that trust is transparency and sharing of our police policy which we reflect upon, train on, and regularly update to keep updated with the changing laws and needs of our communities.

The University of California Office of the President and President Janet Napolitano has created a presidential task force to examine the investigative practices, use of force-related policies and training of the UC police departments in an effort to strengthen the departments’ practices and their relationships and interactions with the community. The task force will provide a written report with guidance and recommendations by December 2018. It will focus on the review of current procedures and establishing a process for continuously re-evaluating best practices going forward.
